• Hi,

I have been having an issue uploading my images. With help of my hosting company was able to resolve the Unable to create directory error but now I have a general HTTP error. They were unable to resolve the error but shared this info with me:

I also checked if all of the WordPress core files are verified, however there are some key files which are not verified.

    Code:
Warning: File doesn’t verify against checksum: xmlrpc.php
    Warning: File doesn’t exist: readme.html
Warning: File doesn’t verify against checksum: wp-admin/user/index.php
Warning: File doesn’t verify against checksum: wp-trackback.php
Warning: File should not exist: wp-admin/error_log
Warning: File should not exist: wp-admin/php_errorlog

They suggested I consult this forum for help. I recently changed hosting companies after having issue with them and malware. I am wondering if some files got corrupted/deleted in the process. Everything works fine it seems, except being to upload images.

I have a backup of my site via Vaultpress, so that includes all of my content, themes, plugins, etc. Unless someone has a better solution, I was considering downloading WordPress, then uploading everything except for the wp-content. I am not an expert in the techincal side of things so I wanted to ask first before I make this attempt.

    Thanks

On the dashboard’s update tab, click the button to reinstall WordPress. That will ensure that you have the latest files, pulled directly from www.ads-software.com. Delete those error log files, as they should not be there and may contain info best not visible from the web.

    Thanks Steve.

I tried reinstalling WordPress from the dashboard update tab but that did not fix the problem.

I can go and delete the error log files like you recommended.

The issues above have nothing to do with the general http error when uploading. Unfortunately, that’s a really tricky issue to track down.

Please install the health check plugin and report back its findings: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/

    Thanks for your continued help!

I installed the plugin. Here is the things I found that I think could need looking at.

    1. PHP Version 5.6.37 – For best performance we recommend using PHP 7.2 or higher.
    2. Under Debug I got : Total installation size 7.20 GB- Some errors, likely caused by invalid permissions, were encountered when determining the size of your installation. This means the values represented may be inaccurate.
    3. Under Filesystem Permissions – The uploads directory Not writable

Is there anything else I should be specially looking for?

Fix number 3 — your uploads directory needs to be writeable. The permissions on the directory (and sub-dirs) should be 755.

I went to the uploads directory and it was already set to 755. All the sub-dirs inside it are 755. There is a htaccess1 file in the uploads directory that is marked as 644.

    delete that htaccess1 file.

If the permissions are correct, then the ownership of the directory may be incorrect. That’s probably best addressed by your host.

I just had them check the ownership of the directory and it looked fine they said.

Re-check with health check. Is the directory writeable?
