• I work for a design company and we host sites for our clients. One of our clients keeps coming up with the HTTP Error when she tries to upload pdfs via the media library. The oddity here is that I am able to upload them on my end without an issue, and the client can upload files from a laptop. It’s just the desktop at her office that will come up with the error. I’ve looked around the forums for an answer to this, but have yet to find any answer that would help me out.

Is the laptop also connected through her office network? (Thinking there may be a firewall issue.)

@sterndata no, she was on her home network.

Maybe there’s an antivirus program or something else on her work computer. Sorry, but as it’s tied to a specific computer, all I can suggest is trying another browser on that one.

I’d like to add volume to @wamedia100 in that we too have been experiencing PDF upload oddities … Just today I tested two WP sites to upload pdf and both produced HTTP ERROR … note one site is REGISTRAR WP network, meaning client running WP via their Domain Registrar … and a separate WP network of sites on different network with different client … in both cases, this pdf of an essay for copywriting client did not upload … i directed client to upload pdf to their Registrar’s WP network, but got similar HTTP errors … this got to me to thinking it was PDF file … here is direct link to said pdf -> https://cooltea.com/avanti/chuckingit/essays/Chuckingit.com-My-Hat.pdf … i then asked client to try uploading another PDF, one i got from computer manufacturer for recent mid-range machine … my client was able to upload that PDF file, but i could not upload that file on my WP network … hence the ping back to @sterndata and/or others that might have PDF upload wisdom solutions at hand :>) cordially, chuck scott

Just today, I too encountered this error with a PDF. “HTTP Error” is frustratingly vague! This was an unremarkable 2MB neighborhood newsletter. Similar uploads have been done about twice a year for the past couple of years. The person who normally does it reported the problem to me, and I got the same — two different home networks.

I probably need to update WP, and will do so. Beyond that, I’ll contact the hosting provider.

I too am having the exact same issue – for the first time receiving an HTTP Error message when uploading a PDF file. I have never experienced this problem before. I look forward to learning of a solution. Thank you,

Odd that no fix is posted. I am getting the same problem. Using same computer on same network moments apart, I can upload one pdf but not another. Making minor changes to the file and file name do not work. These are pdf made from excel spreadsheets a few pages long. Nothing remarkable. Both files made on same computer running same Excel and save to pdf in same way. Because I can upload other files it is definitely not an issue with my network. It is something about the pdf and wordpress and it is very frustrating.
