    Back to original problem – cleanup still doesn’t work after upgrade. I had to manually empty the table from phpMyAdmin.

    Right, but are the cleanup routines scheduled as I Asked in my previous reply?
    If not, make sure wp-cron works. If it doesn’t then that’s the problem.
    Otherwise re-activating the plugin solves the issue if your WordPress works correctly.
