I have a heavy photo blog and recently I have found my admin area to be unusable. Login is fine, but any command after, such as “updates” “spam” causes a huge cpu memory outage which affects my whole server (VPS)

I have tried disabling plugins, repairing the database, clearing cache and purging CDN

I always have 1000’s of spam comments.

    Any help is very welcome.

  • Hi there, sometimes disabling post revisions also helps https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Editing_wp-config.php#Disable_Post_Revisions

And a plugin like Akismet can save you from those spam comments.

I know you said you disabled plugins but are you running W3 Total Cache by any chance. The reason I ask is because I had a site that was running slow and with the help of my hosting company we were able to establish it was the W3 Total Cache that was slowing the site down when logged into admin. Since disabling that plugin everything is fine now.

    Hey thanks for your help.

I found that after performing 2 database repairs back to back, I am able to get in for a while.

I deactivated plugins (including W3 Total cache) and managed to delete 3,000+ spam comments.

I reactivated essential plugins (including W3 Total cache) and installed a WP-Spamsheild

It has now been some hours and my site is back to normal. Issue resolved (I think).
