    Hi there,

I’ve installed the plugin and am trying to figure out the best practices to speed up my site (extremely slow). But the more I tweak settings, the more hummingbird messes with design elements.

A few things I’ve noticed: All of a sudden the header is broader than the screen, the back to top button displays as a black spot, page titles are pushed into the header. I’m sure there are more issues. But is there a way to fix this so the site looks the same but is faster?

    Kind regards,

    Dionne

    Hello @dionnekathleen

    I hope all is well

The best way to use Asset Optimization is to optimize one asset at a time. First, see if there is any optimization available inside your theme options and enable them. Proceed to optimize assets from Hummingbird > Asset Optimization.

Enable one option and view the front end at least twice to see if there are any changes. If something will look different it means asset can’t be optimized, unselect last enabled option, and proceeded to the next one.

The best method to use with Asset Optimization is:
    – Compress and combine as much as many assets are possible,
    – Move to footer everything, except jquery, jquery-migrate and core theme js,
    – If there something is broken or errors showing in browser console move the asset back to the header,
    – Defer the JS scripts.

Please see here the Performance Optimization Guide:

Have a good day and take care!

    Hi Nastia,

I hope all is well with you also and Thank you for the fast response.

The problem actually occured before I activated asset optimization. The header falls off the screen so to speak, back to top button is a black spot and I just saw the sticky header doesn’t work anymore. Everything is fine as soon as I deactivate the plugin.

Does this mean I can not use hummingbird? I really love the simplicity and am considering going premium, but I need to know if I can use it with my theme.

How do I revert all changes in one instance and start all anew? Thanks in advance

    Hey there @dionnekathleen

The problem actually occured before I activated asset optimization.

Before activating it or before making any changes? Please advise! Cause there aren’t any other modules that should affect frontend styling.

You can reset just Asset Optimization from
Hummingbird -> Asset Optimization -> Settings -> Reset to defaults
    or whole plugin from
Hummingbird -> Settings -> Data & Settings -> Reset Settings
    Ref: https://premium.wpmudev.org/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/hummingbird/

    Warm regards,

    Hi Dimitris,

The problems occurred before I made the asset optimization changes, Hummingbird was activated, though.

    So yeah, that’s strange.

I’ll reset Hummingbird and be more secure in implementing changes. Maybe that wat I can track what happens before I start asset optimization.

I’ll just leave this ticket open for a while.

    Thanks for all the help!
