Our site got hit by spammy search and that resulted in hundreds of entries in the “Search Statisctics”

Removing them in bulk removes only 20 at a time. Is there a way to increase the view to 50 or 100 so the removal can be done faster? Or is there another and faster method to remove these entries?

    Hi,

    Thanks for reaching out.

You can check the “Screen Options” on the top right and increase the number of items shown on one page. That will also allow you to delete more at one time.

Another option is to go into settings -> “Delete data older than” and delete entries older than a specific number of days. But this doesn’t sound right in your case.

Let me know if that helps.

    Thank you,

    Hi Cornel,

    Thank you for your response.

Unfortunately, the first option you are describing does not work and will only show max 20 options even though I increased it to 100.

The second option indeed is not wanted as it will also delete valid search results.

    Best regards,

    Marcus

    Hi Marcus,

That is weird. I just tried on 3 different installs with 50, 100, 200 and it works as it should.

Please tell me the versions of WordPress and my plugin to see if I can replicate this issue.

    Thank you,

    Hi Cornel,

We are on WP 6.4.2 and the WP Search Analytics plugin is version 1.4.9.

    Hi Marcus,

That is what all of my websites are using and it works correctly.

Can you tell me what is your user role?

The thing is that when you make the change for that setting, an entry with the key mwtsa_entries_per_page should be stored in the user_meta table. That is what controls the number of entries per page. From what I understand, that value is not being stored correctly in your case.

After you make the change and open the Screen Options panel again, do you see your new value? or the default 20 ?

    Thank you,
    Cornel

    Hi Cornel,

Thank you for the quick responses.

I have Administrator role and rights.

I don’t have access to the PHP database but I can ask someone who has whether this entry is stored in the user_meta table.

    Hi Marcus,

Thank you for the information. Please let me know when you find out if you have the setting.

Also, please reply this other question in my previous message:

After you make the change and open the?Screen Options?panel again, do you see your new value? or the default?20??

    Thank you,
    Cornel

    Hi Cornel,

Yes after changing the screen options panel I still see the default 20 value.

    Hi Marcus,

That confirms my guess. The setting is not being saved for your user in the database.

I just checked on another fresh install and it looks like it’s working correctly.

Do you think there’s any plugin or custom code on your website that can interfere with saving the setting?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

    Hi Marcus,

Any update here? Can you send me a list of the plugins you are using and also the theme name?

If there’s any compatibility issue, I’d like to fix it sooner rather than later.

    Thank you,
    Cornel Raiu

    Hi Cornel,

    Thanks for checking up!

We are using some proprietary plugins and a self-developed theme so I don’t think it will help you in your research. However, we are now checking up with the developer of the theme why this “mwtsa_entries_per_page” key is missing.

Will report back when I have more info on the matter.

    Thank you for the update.

The only thing I can think of right now is some kind of filter added in one of your plugins or the theme on one of these hooks in the set_screen_options WordPress core function:

    set-screen-options
    set_screen_option_{$option}

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you,

    Hi Cornel,

So it seems that the screen options were indeed hard set in the theme so one of the dev’s had to set for my user the screen options to some designated number. Unfortunately, when I change the screen options I will have to bug him again lol.

This error has nothing to do with search analytics and all with the WP theme as used.

This topic can be set as resolved.

Thanks for all your help and considering what possibilities would there be that hinders me from setting the screen options myself.
