    Hello,

Everyone knows about that icon, a vector illustration of a chain that usually sits to the right of a hyperlink, when it appears on WordPress; I need to know if that icon could be changed into some other image like a bullet per say?

I would at least like to find out if anyone knows if that icon can be removed, or ignored from a command within the style-sheet or somewhere else in the editor?

    Thanks.

  • Do you actually speak. Can you send a picture of what you’re saying?

Come again? Sorry, I have no idea what you are saying.

I think what Valerio is trying to say is the icon you are referring to is not known to us. We are not too sure what you’re referring to specifically, a screen shot could help. I don’t see any such icon when using the twentythirteen theme, it must be part of your theme.

As such, these sort of icons are often specified in CSS using the a:before selector. If you can locate the correct directive, you can make it go away. Use your browser’s developer tools to help you locate the proper directive. If you have trouble finding it, post a link to a page with the icon, someone may be able to help you find the correct directive.

Even though it’s a simple change, consider creating a child theme so your change is protected when the theme is updated. Copy the appropriate selector without the icon rule into the child’s styles.css file.

OK, but I didn’t post a question in these forums to get flamed, its unnecessary.

I’m just simply asking a technical question, but thank you for explaining bcworkz. The “chain icon” I’m referring to IS very common on WordPress, it is also used on the dashboard when you are selecting to create hyperlinks, but I guess it depends on the theme. The theme I am working with is “Organic Response,” but the widget/plugin is called “SP News and Scrolling Widgets.” In this widget, the icon is displayed to the left of a hyperlink.

I will take a look within the widget’s code, and see if I can locate that command.

Widgets are disabled on the site I am working on, but this is the
    widget I need to modify:

Please don’t take offense from Valerio’s post. I really doubt any snarkiness was intended. English is obviously not his first language, I really believe he was just trying to help.

You somewhat misunderstood me as well, which was my fault, I didn’t communicate clearly. I do know what icon you are referring to, it’s a dashicon (middle top row). It’s only available by default on admin screens. Any appearance on the front end is due to a theme or plugin.

In any case, knowing what it is is not helpful. Where it is is what is needed, which is why a live link is about the only way we can help you. Without that we are just guessing. We don’t even know if it is a dashicon or a look alike. If it is a dashicon, try looking for this in CSS: content: "\f103"; under a a:before selector.

I looked at your widget’s code, I don’t think it’s coming from that, I think the links are picking up your theme’s styling. Since you are using a commercial theme, this is the extent that I can help. Good luck!

    WTF,
What part of the question he did not understand. What I asked was simply a screen shot of the problem.

To Valerio: No, I perfectly understand that your being rude. We have a communication problem anyway, so never mind.

To bcworkz: sorry, but I would have linked a post from the site with the widget in question, but as I stated earlier in my last post that the widgets (and widgets area) on the site I’m working are disabled (hidden), and I can’t change that right now, since I do not own the site. I have figured already that the icon may be a step higher then the widget/plugin, and is related to the theme.

But I at least have an idea on what to look for now, thanks.
