• I want to add a hyperlink to an image (say, a PDF icon) to link to a pdf document. It seems I can only link to a ‘page’ and not ‘media’. The only way I can see to link to the actual pdf is to ‘ad media’ – which does not have the desired affect.
ALSO, when I DO ‘add media’, I am not given the option for it to open in a new window – which I would like to do.
Could someone enlighten me on these two points, please?
    Thanks…

  • When you are selecting the image to be used there is three buttons that say something on the lines of ‘None’, ‘Page’, ‘Media’. You want to select “Media”

Thank you Justin. However, it’s linking to an actual pdf or word doc which is baffling me?? What I want to do Ideally, is place a pdf (or word doc) icon image on the page and link that to the actual pdf, (or word doc) and have the pdf open on screen in a new window.

Add the image to a post. Click on it. Then click on Insert/Edit Link. or press Alt + Shift + ‘A’. Then put any link you want (to video, pdf, whatever) in there. Click ‘Open link in a new window/tab’ and it will

Thanks Ryan, I just tried that. I found that this brings up the same window where you can select existing content (such as pages and posts) or you can add a url. I assumed I’d need to then go to media library, open the pdf in question and paste that url – but this just brings up a post page and not the pdf. Can you point me in the right direction on establishing the url please?

You can get the link for the doc or PDF from the
“ATTACHMENT DISPLAY SETTINGS” when selecting media for the post.
