I am bombarded with spam comments

    Hi there
    I am setting up a wordpress website for a friend and I thought I had disabled comments as on each post page I have unticked the allow comments box. However the other day I had to tediously delete over 1000 spam junk comments. How are they getting in?
    I must have missed something.
    The site is https://www.hotcursor.com if you want to have a look at it. At this point my friend does not want togo to the expense of akismet as he does not want any comments from people – he just wants to use the site as a gig notification to his subscribers.(this will be installed later)
    any hints and tips greatly appreciated.

    Hi all
    found the problem – just goes to prove you should dig further before yelling for help although previous posts were of help.
    It was a picture that did not have the comments unticked. Just goes to show you are always learning.

    Might check in the Discussion Settings admin page and make sure everything is unchecked in the Default Article Settings.. the spams might be coming in via pingbacks and trackbacks. Can’t remember if changing this setting affects all current posts or only new ones that are made and each older article would need to be changed individually.
