• Every day my site loses 10-50 of its oldest posts (posted 1 month ago).

Note that these were posted by unverified users.

Is there a cleanup process going on?

Maybe I am out of disk space?

    Thanks.

  • There is a new setting since 2.7 that you can have posts expire. Don’t know where by heart, but have a good look through your dashboard. Perhaps under “settings”->”reading”.

I m sorry but I cant find such a setting.

Shouldnt such a setting be big bright and red?? I m losing my articles!

Please help… This must be trivial to most of you.

Can’t find it either. I’m pretty sure that I answered to a similar thread a couple of weeks ago, but I can’t find it immediately and I don’t think my boss will appreciate it when I look for it… Hopefully somebody else has a suggestion. You don’t perhaps have a plugin with such an ability? There seem to be plenty expiration plugins.

No I dont have any such plugin.

    Thats really strange…

    Any help is much appreciated.

Just thinking out loud, but can it be a server setting? Do your tables or the database have a maximum size or something?

Sounds strange, never heard of posts disappearing by themselves.
Is there a link to site so people can see.

    I don’t find a function either LOL.

    Certainly

I download a database backup and I can see the posts in the backup but I cannot see them in the site.

    Does this make sense?

A bit more sense but its all greek to me the site.

By he looks of it, you have been running it for two months (two months of archives listed in sidebar I think).

When you say you can see posts in the backup – are you looking in the backup database sql file or a separate database?

What you see in the sql wont make much sense to even the trained eye – what you see in a separate database might include post revisions which are not meant to be shown on the site – look at the status field.

You might want to swap the databases and see if the site changes.

    Thanks hotkee,
I can see that many many posts have post_status inherit. Is that bad? Arent they blocked from appearing?

You are right hotkee, I have 2 months of articles. And they gradually disappear, even from my admin page.

I am checking the db file I download via the wp-db-backup plugin. I installed in on a local MySql and examine it.

The inherit posts you ignore – you do not touch them and you are not able to edit them yourself in wordpress.

When you say “And they gradually disappear, even from my admin page.” – not sure what you mean – you might have filters on your admin page to view one month at a time.

You can only view about 16 posts in the Edit mode per page, the filters at the top allow you to move between months, statuses etc.

I remove all filters and still see almost 90 articles. These used to be 400.

    Thanks

So you have lost 310 posts?

Have you been importing exporting databases lately – using that plugin.
Doing that approach can result in lost posts – the suggested route of importing exporting is via the wordpress Tools->Import/Export.

If your missing posts are in the old database backup, its a messy way to retrieve them and put them in your new database but can be done.

    Thread Starter grmedsite

    (@grmedsite)

Yes 310 posts are not vieweable any more via the public or admin interface any more. No filtering or paging going on.

    Also corresponding authors are “lost.”

No import/export in my db, just some backups.

Well you could try working with your old backup, create a new database, import your backup in and try that with wordpress.

Also go to your admin->permalinks and Save your permalinks. Maybe its a permalinks. It might be your theme if you have changed your theme recently.

Its messy as I say to get those posts re-appearing if they are really there. Try the above first.
