• I am so upset right now it isn’t even funny. I am running a major website with a lot of traffic. Seamless Donations worked just fine. WHY the changes? I have tried repeatedly to update, it is not working. Yes I have watched the videos, yes I have installed uninstalled deactivated all that stuff, it isn’t working at all! This is so unbelievable. HOW DO I FIX THIS? I was trying to download my data and all my several hundred donors but it kept saying file does not exist. Let’s hope that data is still there somewhere. How long was this beta tested before this happened? Usually beta testing goes on for months, it looks like this was only tested a few days or maybe a week or so?

    Where exactly are all the lists of donors and donations supposed to be? They are not displaying at all now.

    Wow. Let’s try this. Please describe exactly the problem you’re having and I will try to help. As to whether or not your data still exists, one of the reasons you were so visibly reminded to backup your data (even on the update button) was to make sure you could roll back. I’m guessing you disregarded that warning?

    If you do have a backup, probably the easiest thing is to simply roll back and we’ll move on from there. If you don’t have a backup. then I would strongly recommend that you begin the practice immediately, especially since you have a major web site and a lot of traffic. Backups are critical.

    If you are unsure how to implement backups, I would be happy to recommend a number of commercial products that have good reputations.

    Now, back to your concerns. So far, I haven’t heard of a single instance of data loss, but the risk certainly exists. So unless you’ve done something subsequent to updating (and still don’t have a backup), your data is probably fine. We’ll just need to fill in the blanks to make sure you’re okay.

    Please provide more details and I’ll do my best to help you out. In the meantime, take a few deep breaths. It will all be okay.

    I have a backup, what I do not know is WHICH file it is. The upgrade did not work, so I reinstalled the OLD version, which says it is 4.0, but it is not (apparently). I just don’t even know what to say on this since I am days away from having to file my reports with the state (campaign finance laws and all that). I need to know how to export/download the existing data in a csv file like I used to be able to do. THANKS! No it will not be ok, when this is my business, as in actual business. We are in a major campaign cycle (political) How long was this beta tested?

    We can take this in either of two directions. Get you restored to your backup, assuming you properly backed up your database as well as your files. Or we can move you forward and get you running on the latest version.

    Let’s talk versions, first. The older version is 3.3.5, available for download here on the repository. The new version is 4.0. If you restored the older version, you should be seeing 3.3.5. If, as you said, you restored an older version, did you also restore your database?

    But, like I said earlier, I need details to help you. Let’s start with some simple questions. Does the Seamless Donations icon in your control panel look like a gear or a palm tree? On the plugins page, what version does it say you’re currently running of Seamless Donations?

    And I’ll say this once, but it’s important: try to be polite. I’m doing this as a volunteer, you’re using a free plugin, and right now I’m taking time away from my day job responsibilities to help you. I care deeply about helping nonprofits be successful, but that caring ends if I have to encounter too much rudeness. I’ll certainly allow for some level of what-the-heck-just-happened-to-me panic, but only just so much.

    So cool down, answer the specific questions about backups and icons I asked, and I’ll probably be able to get you up and running without too much trouble.

    Gear and says 4.0 I am upset because I saw your post somewhere where you kinda acted like, ooops, I screwed up – oh well. If developers like you want to get paid – you should – no doubt, but to act like, well, it is free and im doing everything for free so who cares, that is not cool. And that is upsetting. WordPress is a huge big deal and it isn’t just Mom’s cute pictures blog who are using it. When beta testing, these major issues should have been immediately obvious and not moved forward until they were fixed. I was totally fine with the old version and aside from the UI, I don’t personally know what the significant changes are that are worth all this hassle. So, moving forward, just know, I am not trying to be *rude* but for you to dismiss major concerns because it is free is not really a good thing. I have asked a few times, HOW do I download the csv file of the donors. THAT is all I need at this point. That is what I want an answer to. I am not interested in moving forward with an upgrade. THANKS

    Okay, gear icon. Now, do you see data under the donors, donations, and funds sections under the gear icon? Don’t freak out if you don’t, but it’s the next diagnostic step.

    And now your website is down and so is my donation page. This is a nightmare. I used SD for years and never had an issue, now with our most important campaign, we cannot get this to work at all. Yes it is upsetting.
