• I have checked through the forum topics related to my problem, but none have yielded a solution.

The problem is that NO comment/reply options appear after my blog post. I have set the options to allow comments at all levels from site-wide to indivdual post.

    Any answers out there?

  • Can you post a link to your site? Also, WordPress only shows comment boxes when you’re viewing a single post.

Thanks for the quick response, and here is the link:

URL: https://www.yachtdogscustomcanvasworks.com beyond the free trial period at Bluehost

I do understand the point of your comment.

@yachtdogs: Don’t know if it helps, but I now see a “Reply” box on https://box5316.temp.domains/~yachtdog/a-new-adventure/.

I’m having a similar issue with the comment form not appearing on my blog, for example https://www.greatenough.me/you-can-make-an-hour-a-week-to-grow/, so I’d love to know how you fixed it.

One lead was the Twenty Seventeen may not support them out of the box. I’m a software engineer by trade, so I’m looking down that path next.

@yachtdogs, Your page appears to have been cached by Bluehost. Can you ask Bluehost to disable it? Caching is the act of saving old versions of your website, so it is suspect to the problem.

Actually I visited your site now and you appear to have resolved the problem: https://box5316.temp.domains/~yachtdog/a-new-adventure/

If you did nothing new, maybe it was caching.

Thanks for looking and letting me know. I did nothing and I actually am not very knowledgeable of website engineering. So you assumption is probably correct.

One thing I did try was to erase my default blog page, create another page and assign that new page to be the default. The setting was under Settings-> Reading. It didn’t make any difference immediately, though. Might there have been a lag?

    Thanks

I don’t know if this helps understanding the problem, but I just realised something. If one navigates to the individual post vas “Recent Posts”, one sees the reply box. However, the Twenty Seventeen theme that I am using has a “Posts Page” that you get to via clicking on “Our Blog” in the main menu. If one does that, the post that you see has no “Reply Box”.

I never noticed this before and am not sure if it is even a desirable characteristic.

I sometimes have a problem with comments being misplaced. happened today, actually. Usually they get associated with a JPG file in the media library (one that was used as a header for an older theme and not otherwise used in the past few years). The comment is listed in the “recent comments” widget in the sidebar, but not below the post intended.

To correct it, I use Tako’s move comments plugin to put it in the right place (other similar plugins also work). Pain in the backside to have to keep checking on them, but I have’t found another solution.
