• 1. i am very familiar with computers, specifically, their insides, parts and wires, installs, configuring virus, wurms, malware, etc., for over 20 yrs.
    2. i don’t know anything about any code whatsoever, though give me any off-the-shelf software & i’ll get it installed and purring on your machine.
    3. i purchased a new webdomain and a hosting package (whois.com/cpanel.
    4. i went to www.ads-software.com site and downloaded the software onto my computer (zip file) & unzipped to a new directory.
    5. neither i, nor my neighbor with 30 years in business analysis and coding could get the program into my web site in a workable model!
    6. today (5/20/15) i found the microsoft web platform installer, chose wordpress as my selected software and went through dozens of steps, “secret phrases,” etc. it also recommended additional ms programs to make my work easier and foolproof! duh??? after downloading for over 3 hours, a message window popped up advising i must restart the machine so the installation could finish. so i did! the computer restarted and nothing else happened. no additional windows opened to show the progress bars as the rest of my “order” still has to be downloaded and installed.
now, i cannot find my wp package neither on my laptop nor on my webpage. the only successful move i can make is open the cpanel window to work with the files that need adjustments, etc.
in closing, i cannot open wp on my machine. i cannot access my web site, even when using such suffixes as .php, .asp, exe. etc….
    helpppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

  • WordPress isn’t an executable that runs from your computer. The Microsoft Web Platform Installer is simply a development tool that is generally used in a localized environment.

I purchased a new webdomain and a hosting package (WhoIs.com/cPanel.

Then you will need to upload WordPress to the hosting account you purchased, not install it on your local computer.

Some getting started information for you:

Things to Know Before Installing WordPress

If you install WordPress in a local development platform (ie.. Web Platform Installer) it will share no connectivity with the site you installed on your hosting account on a remote server. They aren’t linked in any way.

If you’re working with files in cPanel, you’re working on your remote server, not a WordPress package on your laptop. They are not connected.

Clayton, Thank you. I understand everything you said. That’s why, when I finally found the MS WPI, I used that to install WordPress on the server.
As I mentioned above, I believed I was on the correct path when I utilized the Web Platform Installer. However, when I followed its direction to reboot so it could complete the installation, nothing happened after the reboot. Thus, I am stuck in a void.

I believed I was on the correct path when I utilized the Web Platform Installer.

You don’t need the MS Web Platform Installer at all. Simply upload the WordPress files to your web space using an FTP client or the file manager located in cPanel, and run the install routine from a browser: yoursite.com/wp-admin/install.php

All of that was unnecessary effort. All you need is access to your hosting account and an FTP client.

Installing WordPress really is only a ~5 minute deal.

Clayton, Once again, my thanks. Taking what you said to heart, I deleted all of the previous files, versions, etc. and began from scratch, step-by-step, using the 5-Step outline on WP.org. Funny thing, was up to now, the most time-consuming activity was finding a decent, free, FTP program. Tried Filezilla, (direct from SoundForce) but it failed to install from 3 different downloads. I finally settled on Core FTP.
Now my only question is connecting through Core FTP: which used ID & PW do I use? The set from WhoIs.com? From my account login? MySQL database? And/or does “LOCALHOST” play any part in setting up the core FTP?
I set the location at https://mysite.org/blog/ where I created the Blog subdirectory.
Thanks for your patience and advice. It is much appreciated!
    Steve

You can find FileZilla client (without any extra bundled software offers attached to the installer) here: https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?show_all=1 Choose the one that’s correct for your platform. WinSCP is also popular, free and versatile. You can find that here: https://winscp.net/eng/index.php I’ve never used Core FTP client.

Localhost will not play any part in setting up an FTP connection to your remote site.

You use the address to your domain, and the username and password will be your FTP account username and password. If you aren’t familiar with how to use the default FTP user, or need to create one using cPanel, you will want to consult your hosts user FAQ and any tutorials they might provide on how to setup and manage your hosting account, including FTP access.

I can get you started with some relevant articles from their user knowledge base
