I Cannot login to wordpress

If you’ve put your site live you own’t be using localhost any more (under most circunstances). You’d be using the new domain name, eg: https://mydomain.com/wp-admin/

Thanks for that – I had tried https://mydomain.com/wp-admin/ as you suggested – this brings me to my login page, at which point I enter my username and password. I then get an error ‘invalid username’. The user name I am using is the same as that in wp_config and wp_user and is also showing as a user in mysql.

I really have been all around the houses with this but no go. It is probably something simple but…

Have you tried to reset the WordPress Dashboard username and password? Here are the tutorials.

You can change WordPress Dashboard username and password from database through phpMyAdmin.
