    Good morning
I took over control of website https://and-pt.org with admin credentials. Last Sunday I was updating website contents and I downloaded plugin let’s encrypt from the dashboard to get a free SSL certificate once Google is displaying the message “site not secure”.
I executed the plugin and followed the instructions and changed site url and wordpress url from http to https. Now when I connect to the site it’s still running but some pages run correctly others don’t. It happens in all browsers. If I click in any page I get this message
“This server could not prove that it is and-pt.org; its security certificate is from https://www.castordepapel.pt. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection”.
If I run it in unsafe mode it runs ok but with the label “not secure” in the address bar.
As for wp admin dashboard I don’t have access anymore. As I changed it to https://and-pt.org/wp-admin I get the message:
    Your connection is not private
    NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID
the security certificate has expired or is not yet valid
the name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site.
I tried FTP with filezilla but user and password are incorrect and I wasn’t given any other password except the one to access wp dashboard.
Whoever registered the site doesn’t work at the company anymore (its a NGO) so I don’t have no way of contacting him.
Since the site was registered in 2008 I can’t even find which is the hosting provider. Some companies merged or ceased to exist or changed names. I made a query with Whois discovered 2 companies that could have the site hosted but both tell me they don’t have any record of that client in their database.
So I reached the point of no return… I can’t access the admin dashboard in wp I can’t access through FTP and I don’t know the hosting.
I will be grateful if anyone can give me a help here and give me some advice on which is the best solution for this.. either migrating the site or having a new admin user and password to wp dashboard.
I still believe there may be a solution for this.
    Thank you all

I didn’t forget my login credentials to the hosting provider I just don’t have them and I don’t know who they are. That’s the real problem.
It seems to me to be more easier to have a new access to wp admin dashboard meaning WordPress resetting my current user and password and giving me a new one.
I forgot to mention that I made a full backup and a db backup on wp dashboard prior to the error occured.
I have both files on my computer with the extension .sgbp.
So sorry if I insist on this but since I can revert the problem by restoring to previous site and for that I only need a new access to the wp dashboard counldn’t you guys give me one? Please?
    Many thanks

    Hey,

I can see that there no valid SSL installed on the domain and-pt.org that’s the reason you are receiving a security error. As you forced the WP home and site URL to https:// you are no longer to access dashboard until you fix the SSL issue. We can fix this issue in 2 ways. One by installing the valid SSL certification on the domain other one is to revert back the home and site URL to https://

    1. To install valid SSL certificate you would need to contact hosting provider. (See if this link helps : https://hostingdetector.com/website/and-pt.org )

    2. To revert the home and site URL to https:// you should have access to hosting account or you should have access to database used for the domain. If you can gain the access I can help you further.

Installing certificates is a bit tricky… I never install them trough plugins… that is what C-Panel is for.

This tool that helps identify hosting companies say that your website is being hosted at Datasource – WebSolutions in Portugal…

    https://hostingchecker.com/#and-pt.org

That does not mean that the domain name is register there… just the hosting.

So probably a good idea to call them and see if they can help you access the hosting. I think this is them:

    https://www.datasource.pt/

If they give you access to it, you can then go to the database and disable plugins:

    https://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-deactivate-all-plugins-when-not-able-to-access-wp-admin/

Anyway… the domain name is registered on here: https://publicdomainregistry.com/

Usually this companies will help you better if you have access to the bank account that paid for all of this…

if all this fails probably try to contact the old webmaster and see if they give you the info about the hosting and domain?

Finding the hosting provider is already helpful.
I’m going to contact them and see if they can help.
    Hope they can.~
Worst case scenario is building a website from scratch.
    Many thanks

And what about my access to wp-admin?
I changed the wordpress url to https://and-pt.org/wp-admins along with the site url following plugin’s instructions. The previous url was https://and-pt.org/wp-admin
Which means that after disabling all the plugins I may still not have access to wp-admin.
How can I solve this problem? Is there a way to reset current user and password or to revert current wordpress url to previous url?
Or by accessing the database and disabling all plugins I may also have access to wp-admin?
Basically it would be the best solution because I have a full backup of the site and Db and it would be much easier if I could go back to the previous wordpress url to see the login page (which I don’t see now)

Once you get access to database go to _options table. Here you need to search for home and site under option_name. These two fields you need to update to old URL i.e. https://and-pt.org/wp-admin . Also along with this disable the plugins. This will help you in accessing the WP dashboard.
