I can’t add any new catagories!
-
Could you be a little (i.e., a lot) more specific?
Well with WordPress you have sidebars and sidebars have different things on them. One happens to be “categories” and when you write a post in one of your categories it appears on the site. You can have an assortment of categories to fit what your site is about, like sports, food, tv, etc. I’m trying to add some to my site but whenever I create a new category, nothing appears on the site. You may notice a popular category known as uncategorized, that’s all I unfortunately have due to some unknown problem and that’s why I’m here today.
Is this an unusual or rare problem? I would very much like to get started on my website.
I really wish I could add categories like everyone else but I can’t, wonder why.
I am having exactly the same problem.
Have you found any solution yet?I’ve tried creating different users ie admin, editor, author but it made no difference.
Please advise
Gosh, Im sympathetic, but before I ask questions, can I please give some advice.
Under your name, on these forums, is a word that says Member. Member is a link to your profile. Inside your profile you can see, as can we, all of your posts and started threads.
Please use that.
I know that you are frustrated, but I also know that you had one thread about this, (its still in your profile) and that you started another one that was deleted by a moderator because it was a duplicate of your first one.. and now we have this one.
Its really unnecessary to do that — and very reasonable to bump an old thread (not a 20 minute old thread) but you know like _common sense_ old?

Onto your problem..
The category box is ALL javascript. What browser are using, what version browser are you using? Do you have javascript turned on? Do you have a javascript debugger installed into your browser?
Did you upload ALL the javascript files that are necessary for that to work?

In the meantime, why not see if you can add categories via the Manage -> Categories screen.
If you can, it’s more than like a JS issue, if you cannot, then it’s something else.
Resolved!
I just changed the web address entered in options from
https://domainname.com to https://www.domainname.comI am now able to create categories plus use the visual editor.

I think I have the solution! This one has been bugging me for a couple days. I noticed when attempting to edit categories, the address in the FF/IE address bar was “https://mysite.com/wp-admin/categories.php”, but in the WordPress Options tab I set “https://www.mysite.com” for both “WordPress Address” and “Blog Address”. Changing both of these fields to “https://mysite.com” (deleting the “www.”) fixed all of the problems I was having.
Hope this works for everybody else with the stupid “Are you sure you want to navigate…” problem.
ahh yes, thats been mentioned here before. you searched ?? Good job! YOU get a cookie!! ??

That’s what I’ve been doing this whole time. It’s not the browser either because I’ve done it with IE and Firefox and still nothing.
Just to clarify. You can not create the categories or they do not display after creating them?
(The reason for my question: most themes do NOT display empty categories, i.e. those without posts in them)They don’t display after I create them. If that’s the case isn’t there a code I could put into my theme so that they do show up when I create them?
There is, you just have to read the documentation:
https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Template_Tags/wp_list_categories#Parameters
See the hide_empty parameterThat’s cool but how should I use it?
You just start reading that whole page and you will find a lot of examples about using the parameters.
You want to tweak your theme? Learn how to do it.You want to tweak your theme? Learn how to do it.
I’m all for the self learning but I read the entire page and it doesn’t tell you to look for those words or to put them in, or if you did have to put them in, they definitely don’t tell you where. I got an idea that can help people in this situation for years to come. How about someone, maybe you or maybe someone else with experience can try it out for themeselves, that way if they ever have a theme with this problem, they can fix it and when they see a desperate soul such as myself as for help, they can easily guide them in the right direction.
(And no that wasn’t sarcasm, I’m dead serious)
