I can't even get started

I don’t know the version. I assume its the most recent. I am trying to get started and an am having trouble. I downloaded wordpress and extracted the files. I opened the readme file and following the directions. I click wp-admin/install.php to open it in my browser. Then the source code shows up and nothing else happens.

I appreciate any help you could provide.
