• Hey Guys,

I just logged in a few min ago and upgraded to the newest version of WordPress, however when I went to login after the updates I got this message.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_update_data() in /hermes/web10/b903/pow.ohnoble1/htdocs/wp-admin/menu.php on line 34

Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it.

    Please help.

have you read the troubleshooting 3.3 master list: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/troubleshooting-wordpress-33-master-list

    try:
resetting the plugins folder by using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder from a fresh download of WordPress. by using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. (manual upgrade)

    Keesiemeijer –

I’m having the same problem. For the directions that you gave to reset the plugins folder using FTP, can you explain what step 4 means: login to WP administration menus? Where do I find that if I can’t login to admin and get that fatal error.

    1. Via FTP or your host’s control panel, navigate to the wp-contents folder (directory)
    2. Via FTP or your host’s control panel, rename the folder “plugins” to “plugins.hold”
    3. Via FTP or your host’s control panel, create new folder called “plugins”
    4. Login to your WordPress administration menus
    5. Via FTP or your host’s control panel, delete the empty “plugins” you previous created
    6. Via FTP or your host’s control panel, rename “plugins.hold” back to “plugins”

Try to login (yoursite.com/wp-admin) after step 3. If you can’t login it’s not a plugin causing the trouble.
Try the steps after that (switching to the default theme, manual upgrade)

I’m a noob. I don’t understand how to switch to a default theme and do a manual upgrade. Do I have to delete the themes in my FTP folders? I have a customized theme and does that mean I have to start over?

I need a 1.2.3 step by step of what to do.

    Hi All!

Any assistance would be greatly, GREATLY appreciated!!

I am at a complete loss at this point.

    This is my error message:
Fatal error: error traversing GeoLite City database file – perhaps it is corrupt? Try reinstalling it. in /home/content/p/u/r/pureprairie1/html/wp-content/plugins/visitor-maps/include-whos-online-geoip.php on line 454

This is the original site where I downloaded the plugin from: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/visitor-maps/faq/

It’s my understanding that I need to deactivate ALL of my plugins. No problem, I just need a way to get into the site.

Anybody? Any suggestions? Am feeling quite desperate at this point.

THANKS MUCH! I did not know at the time to check my PHP memory limit. Is this related perhaps.

    Desperately seeking help.

    In advance, thanks everyone.

@prairiebee: It is considered impolite to interrupt another poster’s thread. Please post a new topic.

Thank you for pointing this out to me. I am still
getting familiar. I could not find where to start
a new thread inquiry and looked at existing threads
    to find the closest.

I apologize, an innocent mistake from a newbie.

Not a problem PrairieBee. I finally got my problem resolved with some expert help. Hope they can help you with yours as well.
