I have updated wordpress manually via FTP since I could not update my wordpress.
I thought the version of the wordpress was the problem but
re-installing nor plugins updating/installing are still not working…
when I click update WordPress, it shows as

‘Downloading update from https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/release/wordpress-4.6.1-no-content.zip…
Unpacking the update…
Could not create directory.
Installation Failed’

My site is selfnailers.com

and I also do get this line when I go into selfnailers.com/wp-admin
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ”WordPress News</s’ (T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE) in /host/home2/hnam/html/wp-admin/index.php on line 82

Please help me out ??
I have tried to change the wp-content and wp-config php file permission to 755/777. not working

If updating WordPress manually via FTP worked, then consider updating/installing plugins/theme manually as well:

To resolve the Parse error: syntax error I would download a fresh copy of WordPress, extract the index.php file from the /wp-admin/ directory, delete the original file you have and upload the new file to the same location in /wp-admin/.

I have tried to upload plugin manually via FTP, and it didn’t work..
I guess the wordpress update didn’t work either.

Hi. I’m a beginner here and I’m trying to update my church website. I already update the WP to the newest version (4.6.1) manually and I’m having problems with the plugins that I can’t update bcz the “installation failed”. I don’t get any other error message.

The website is https://scdivinelight.org/scdl/ and I recently found out that the host is a Windows Server, PHP Version 5.4, IIS Version IIS 7.0 (Even though I don’t know what this means, I’ve been researching a lot to figure out how to make the website to look like the church wants to). I’d really appreciate to have some answers for the update process and how a windows server can influence my ability to perform simple tasks. Thanks
