• Hi,

I just used Fetch and copied the main Website folder containing my WordPress blog over from HostExcellence to IX Web Hosting. I also transferred my domain name.

When I go to my Website online, all of my articles are there and in tact. Am I missing something? How does my Site work – before even transferring over my database?

It would be great if the WordPress site had its own db software and server built in; however, I suspect that as soon as I terminate my hosting with the old company that my Website will stop bringing up my articles correctly.

    What’s going on?

  • Have you tried viewing your website in a Private / Incognito Browser? Your browser may have cached your site to speed up your browsing and that’s what you’re seeing.

Don’t terminate your old hosting until you’ve backed up everything, including the database.

Your old database address was probably something other than ‘localhost’

    Example: mysq12345.hostexcellence.com

So, I suppose it might be possible that while your files were in a different location, the mysql database info in your wp-config.php file is still pointing to the old database location, and not to a database in your current hosts environment.

I suspect that as soon as I terminate my hosting with the old company that my Website will stop bringing up my articles correctly.

Correct. WordPress needs a database. See the instructions in: Moving WordPress for the details.
