I deleted Suggested images – Can I restore them?

I like the look of Twenty Seventeen theme. I first tried to upload my own images to replace the “Suggested” ones but it kept throwing up Suggested images in the Sections of the Home page. In my desperation I deleted them from Media. While that worked, it also left the Home page looking really silly with no images at all (except the first which was my own uploaded one). After considerable searching I found some documentation that said that I should have changed the “Featured Image” in each Page I had associated with each Section of the layered Home page. So I wat to re-instate the Suggested images in Media. But there is no Trash in Media. So I tried deleting the theme and re-installing it but the images have not been restored. Is there some other way I can restore them? Or do I have to blow away the entire installation of WordPress and re-install from scratch?
