• Somehow I’ve broken my website…. a 500-Internal Server Error comes up when i try to view my site https://www.cikcompanies.com .
    Here’s the story:
I forgot the password and clicked the “forgot password” button where it sends the new password to the email that’s linked to the account. Well I never got an email regarding the password and since I clicked the button the password had been changed so even if I remembered the old password it would do me no good.
So I tried to change the password using FTP and that didn’t work for me either. Then I removed what I had added to the FTP files and *poof* I screwed up the website. And I can’t even figure out what I did since the info i removed from the FTP files is gone…
I really messed up, I know.

Is there anyone out there willing to try to at least make the website appear instead of either a blank page/500-Internal Server Error? I know nothing about coding and now that I’ve managed to mess it up, I’m afraid to try anything in fear that I’ll just make it even harder for someone else to fix later….
    HELP!

what did you do? What file(s) did you touch/change?

I added: wp_set_password( ‘password’, 1 ); to my active theme’s function.php file. still wouldn’t let me log on with my new password that I set. I also removed it, i don’t think i removed more than that, but i have no idea….
I also followed a different set of instructions online (ones that I can’t find now, ugh.) that had me create a new directory within another directory and add certain code to it. It didn’t seem to change anything, because I still couldn’t log in using the new password. so I removed the directory I added.

both of the instructions I followed said I would have to remove the things I added after I successfully logged in….. but when I removed them without successfully logging in, I broke it….

download a new copy of your theme, unzip it, and upload the “clean” functions.php to your site.

No, download the theme wherever you got your theme from in the first place.

I never went to an outside site to get it. It was free. Just a free WordPress theme I believe. It’s called Sparkling…
