• I am new at this please take that into consideraton with your explanations. Thanks…

    1. I own a domain https://www.chathamcc.com
    2. I have directed the dns #’s correctly so that when I type in that .com I t to my wordpress site.
    3. In the title bar of the browser when I FIRST get to the site it says https://www.chathamcc.com, but when I navigate to another page, products for example the title bar changes to a the more obscure https://chathamcc.com.s100117.gridserver.com/?page_id=182

    4. I would like it to remain chathamcc.com or at least something like chathamcc.com/products.

I read through this site and called my ISP and somehow determined that I was supposed to go into general settings and change both the site URL and the blog URL. When I did this I locked myself out of everything and had to do the dance of resetting all using the PHPADMIN. Now for someone with my limited knowledge that was pretty stressful, but I got it back to where it was. And I backed up the site.

Question is how do I do what I was trying to accomplish in the first place? Step by step please. Thanks!!!

  • Ok really simple process so it should be fixable pretty simply.

if you login into your dashboard on your left side you have the sidebar with all of the options you can change towards the bottom you have a grouping of settings called “Settings” the first option under it should be general (if you don’t see general click on Settings and it should show up underneath it).

Now you should see is a page with the site name and tag line.. also there are two fields that are:

    WordPress address (URL)
    Site address (URL)

make sure both of these are the url you want. my guess one of these probably the site address will be set to:

    https://chathamcc.com.s100117.gridserver.com/

so you need to just change it to:
    https://chathamcc.com/
    or
    https://www.chathamcc.com/

if you put the www in front you will always get the www on the front of your url.

let me know if you need more help

This is exactly what i put in to get into trouble in the first place actually. It’s POSSIBLE I didn’t put the / in it the end.

Should I just try it again? after I did it the first time I recieved this error message.

Warning: is_writable() [function.is-writable]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/) is not within the allowed path(s): (/nfs:/tmp:/usr/local:/etc/apache2/gs-bin) in /nfs/c07/h02/mnt/100117/domains/chathamcc.com/html/wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 133

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /nfs/c07/h02/mnt/100117/domains/chathamcc.com/html/wp-admin/includes/misc.php:133) in /nfs/c07/h02/mnt/100117/domains/chathamcc.com/html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 890

Did you mention that first error to your server support? that sounds like a permission problem that is on the server side.
