This is a new vanilla install from my host’s one-click installer. https://www.bristol-stop-smoking-hypnosis.co.uk Problem shows with 2015 and 2012.

If I go to Dashboard > show site, the site does not know I am logged in. The “log in” link shows, and the menu with “edit this page” does not show.

Also, if I go to Dashboard > Customise it asks me to log in, even though I’m logged in before and after visiting this page.

    One setting I’ve checked is
    Settings > general
“WordPress address” and “site address”; these are the same as the URL above. (And, if it matters, there is an entry in “site address”, it is not empty.)

I’m puzzled what else to check – suggestions much welcomed!

    Many thanks

    Andy

Hi andy3142 & welcome. Unless I’m completely off base, I rather suspect the problem lies w/the WP-SuperCache plugin you’re running.

    Removal instructions are here:
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-super-cache/other_notes/

I’d respectfully suggest you not install this plugin until you’re well & truly finished w/developing your site. It generally tends to cause your changes not to bee seen & other difficulties users encounter & can’t quite figure out why. It’s a good plugin once your site is basically finished.

Thanks for providing a link to your site. It was really helpful–& very interesting!

    Dear Jackie,

Yes, you are right. I had tried de-activating Super Cache without success. Following your post I re-activated W3 Total Cache. This found and cleaned up one of the elements from the removal instructions [I’d not been aware of those before], and after that all is well.

In the end I stayed with W3. It is harder to set up than Supercache, but gives much better results than Supercache on webpagetest, and feels so much more robust.

    Many thanks

    Andrew
