These are subscribers, The subscriber role only has read access to your site https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Roles_and_Capabilities#Subscriber

If you want people to become subscribers, in admin go to Settings -> General -> Membership: and uncheck “Anyone can register”

anyone can register on your wordpress site by visiting yourdomain.com/wp-login.php

you can disable user registration by logging in dashboard>general
    untick anyone can register.

    hi guys.

OK. thanks. i am feeling stupid.

so can i please ask you – so this has nothing to do with signing up for an RSS feed. this has to do with someone wanting to become a “Subscriber”? what is the purpose of this for them? what is the purpose of this for me?

also, i had a guy on another blog set me up with a php login name and password where he let me write a post and then asked me to just alert him before i posted. of course i screwed this up thinking i was simply saving the post (and not actually publishing it) so he bumped me down to a lower level of access.

i guess this is the sort of thing we are talking about? if so, can i uncheck anyone can register and still give people access to write content and not publish it until i decide to publish…?

THANKS (also a big thanks for the link)

no, nothing to do with subscribing to an RSS feed.

Subscribers have the same ability to read your blog posts as unregistered readers.

You can control spam by requiring uses to have at least the subscriber role before they can Leave comments.

You can have a private blog where only registered users are granted access so you manually create subscriber accounts for people you want to give access to

OK. thanks. i have to read up on this.

but, what is the purpose exactly of someone registering on my blog? i mean, if they can read the posts anyway…

also, what is the reason why i would allow people to subscribe in this manner as opposed to preventing them from subscribing…?

also, presumably i can give people permission to /create/ a post and then i could /publish/ the psot myself after having reviewed it is that right?

    thanks…
