• I am realitivly new to WordPress but I am thoroughly impressed with its versatility. One of my sites, when I logged on, required several updates to plugins. Maybe 4 plugins and my theme, Mantra. I updated the plugins first. It was a little rocky, in that it seemed to get stuck, but after around 3 minutes it resolved itself. I blame slow internet on that one. Next I told it to update my theme, Mantra, it worked for around 2 minutes. After that I decided it was stuck so I refreshed. It said that it was still in maintenance mode, so I thought it wasn’t done yet so i waited another 3-5 minutes and refreshed again. It said the same thing so I used FTP to remove the .maintenance file and refreshed again. That is when i got this error, it appears to be in the theme. You can see the error for yourself by going to the site https://techtraces.tk/. After see that error I tried replacing the .maintenance file but to no avail. So with that I have no idea what to do. Please help if you can, thanks.

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

That should get you back into the site and allow you to delete and re-install your preferred theme.

When I changed the theme folder name the website wen blank, I’m not sure how to reset the plugins, I’m in phpMyAdmin and can’t find what that guide says I should be finding, and I cant help but to fear that I may screw something else up while in the database.

Re-upload a fresh, unpacked, copy of the Twenty Twelve folder to wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

It is still blank, if it is a problem plugin could I just delete the suspected one from the server and see if hat solves the issue. The plugin that I think would be causing some of the problems is bulletproof security. All of the other plugins are things like Google analytics, facebook like box, social media integration, noting too complex. Except for the All-In-One SEO Tool and the Bullet-Proof Security plugin.

Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message. Your host should be able to assist you with this.

Wait, I was able to log in to the site, it says “ERROR: The themes directory is either empty or doesn’t exist. Please check your installation.” in the admin page. What should I do about that, just re-install the theme?

I just deleted and re-installed the theme and that seems to have fixed it, Thanks for your help.
