    Hey guys!

I am starting a blog and I was initially planning on using wordpress.com, but then I read a bunch of articles saying that www.ads-software.com was the way to go (more customization, etc). I signed up with Bluehost and now I have NO idea what to do. I don’t code and I don’t understand any of the technical speak. What is the FIRST thing I need to do to get started?? Thanks so much for your help.

    L

  • Did you register a domain and hosting or signed up for a blog?

Write some more detail what exactly you did lol

there is a general description of what is needed to get your own self-hosted site based on www.ads-software.com started:

    more customization, etc

this will need coding, so if you serious with that aspect of your site, you will rather sooner than later need to learn the basics of css, html, and php

I found this helpful tutorial playlist from bluehost for people with the same problem as you.

    Hope this helps.

in your bluehost cpanel, there are some instructions to get you started with WordPress. They have a one-click install which works very well.
Plus their customer support is also very friendly, so if you run into any issues during the installation they can help you out.

And also, you do not need to learn php. A little html and css does help to make your site look more professional but strictly speaking, you really don’t need that either. That is the beauty of this.

The host I have uses Fantastico as a one click install. Probably very similar to Bluehost. Good luck and have fun!

I’ve learned that when some new folks ask for “customizations”, what they really mean is that they want configurations. The former would typically require code, or at least editing existing code; the latter would be the modifying through the use of plugins and the digital equivalent of flicking switches.

So don’t be scared off by the whole thing just yet. Work with your host to install WordPress and the guides folks posted earlier should help you get started.

I saw you said you’re with Bluehost.
