@creationy – Please try our external Reset Tool plugin here: https://bitbucket.org/photocrati/nextgen-gallery-reset/get/default.zip

To install and activate, go to Plugins > Add New … Upload Plugin
To use, go to Tools > NextGEN Gallery Reset

We do not offer specific support for the Reset Tool plugin as is but it can help in many circumstances, please let us know if it does.

    Thanks!

    Hello,
I finally found where the bug comes!
In the administration panel -> Gallery -> More Options -> Sort Method “Date/Time” -> Save

    Screenshot: https://hpics.li/6bda3ed

    Plugin Language: French
    WordPress 4.5.3
    NextGEN Gallery 2.1.44
    Running PHP version: 5.6.21

    Hi,

I have the same issue. I tried this but it doesn’t work for me. I still don’t get the Gallery settings in the admin. The gallery is working but there is no way to tweak any settings.

We have literally hundreds of albums and thousands of pictures. These are mostly working fine. However, the site is now getting to a crawl and our ISP is telling me that there are multiple 502 errors being thrown by NextGen processes which are being killed on the server. I also tried the NextGen optimizer plugin, and the reset plugin. No luck still. Any help?

Thanks Cais, I figured out that the plugin was set to only be visible for a specific role. So it was not even visible to the admin user. Isn’t there a global access to Admin?

@wp-mistress – NextGEN Gallery only uses and supports the default WordPress roles … even if a custom role is cloned from the admin role as an exact copy it may still cause issues for a user with that role managing NextGEN Gallery.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.

OK – it gets weirder. I replicated my production site to a staging server. I can now see the Next Gen gallery settings on the staging site. But not on the production site.

Also the custom role created can only manage albums and galleries – but cannot manage the overall plugin settings.

I think that the role may have been selected in the access control settings.

@wp-mistress – I suspect this will be best to start a new topic for these latest issues.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.

I have a comparable problem and I can exactly reproduce it.

I have custom user roles as well.

When I change settings in “other options”, the settings for user roles in the Nextgen settings are set to a custom user role. When I manually reset all these settings to the default admin settings and then press save, it keeps working. It seems that the NGG other options panel has a preference to the last added user role.

When I forget to check the NGG roles settings and edit something in the other options panel (like tumbnail options or lightbox effects) , I am screwed. I need the NGG reset plugin to get access again.

Hope this is helpful to find a fix.

@rvdm – NextGEN Gallery only supports the default WordPress roles at this time.

    – Cais.

    Thanks for your reply.

Does this also mean that when you saved this setting to “administrator” it automatically sets it to a custom role when you load the “other options” panel?
