Hi there. I have looked all over the support pages to try to figure this out on my own, but after several hours, i’m just not getting anywhere. This seems like it would be a pretty common problem, so I’m really sorry if this question has been asked before… i’ve been trying to find it. So here’s what I am dealing with. For several months now, I have been using
Blogsome(indiespensablemusic.blogsome.com) as my website. I just decided that it was worth the money to switch to my own domain. The thing is, I have no idea how to tranfer my blog over to WP, and then get WP onto my new domain(indiemuse.com).I understand that to use wordpress, I need a web host, and I already use one on my blogsome site that a friend is letting me use. It’s not one of these web host sites though. It’s just this website that I can upload my files to. Therefore, I don’t really understand how to get wordpress onto the host or if the host that I use even meets the minimum requirements. If I understand correctly, some hosting sites(ie dreamhost), already have wordpress installed, so I wouldn’t have to install myself, but if I can, I would like to stay away from paying money to store my files, if I have a friend that will host them for free. So to sum up, I need someone who is able to either tell me in specifics what I have to do(sorry, i am computer challenged:), or direct me to a step by step proccess.(the one I couldn’t find)Thank you in advance! I really appreciate any help that I can get.

your friend is going to have to determine if the server has the necessary standards set for you to install wordpress… meaning if it supports PHP and MySQL, if you can get your own MySQL database, if you get access to creating one and so on.

these are all questions that need to be asked of your friend before you can even be able to know if you’re able to use wordpress whatsoever.

and always, if all else fails, read the manual… ??
