I need help organizing my blog – putting banner

  • Please, help me.
    I am going to open a wordpress blog but i’m having trouble organizing the sidebar to the right of the posts. I’m making my own theme to suit my needs. I have the sidebar under <div id=sidebar> but i don’t know what property should i add to the css style-sheet to make it right.
    I also have my sidebar.php file with its get_sidebar on the index.php

    I’m also having trouble adding a banner. I used <img src=”*”> but nothing seems to happen.

    I will apreciate your help, I’m new at wordpress.

  • If you are new at this, the best way is to pick a theme very close to the one you want and then change it little by little until you have it to your liking.

    It would be best to use a theme that you can work with. Use one that’s close to what you want so you can learn all about HTML/PHP/CSS. If you don’t.. then a great source to learn all this would be:

    Again, not putting you down or anything…it would be best to use a theme that you like and then work with it to change it to your likings. This way you can learn what others did with their theme and php and all.

    If that is the case, attempting to build your own theme from scratch would be akin to a lawyer representing himself in a criminal trial. It would be MUCH easier and understandable to find one of the hundreds of themes that is basically close to what you require (width, sidebar/s, etc.) and then change the colors, graphics, etc to your liking. You KNOW WP requires a good deal of PHP coding – which you admit you know little of – yet you insist on doing it the hard way?

    I might applaud your initiative, but the reality of the situation might require some common sense be used. Good luck with that.
