• I have a Custom Post Type – Academics.
I have created a CPT – Series and have attached it to the CPT Academics.
I want to display the taxonomy list Series on a page mydomain.com/Academics/Series. I get a 404 error.
I have templates created and Pages have been assigned the templates.
Is there something about the slugs that I am missing out on? Or am I overseeing something obvious?
It works well if I use mydomain.com/Series.

  • It might just be a matter of flushing your rewrite rules. Visit Settings ->Permalink and click “Save Changes”. Did that do the trick?

No. It did not work. Tried it again.
Should I have a page associated with the CPT or will having a template suffice?

I think the problem is that you can’t have a page with the same slug/permalink structure as a CPT.

In other words, if the slug for your Academics custom post type is ‘academics’, then WordPress is going to think any URL that begins with mydomain.com/Academics/… is an ‘Academics’ custom post type so it’s looking for an ‘Academics’ post type with a slug of ‘series’, which doesn’t exist, so 404.
