• I downloaded a new template and attempted to install it. My site is not working now because I needed to update. But I can’t figure out how to now access my admin panel because the template is not allowing this. It was noted I could access this through my ftp site. But I have no idea how to do that! How can I access that admin panel? or any guesses on how to fix this? The template designer said I needed to upgrade my wordpress to fix it, but I can’t even log in to upgrade!

  • Looks like there is something wrong with your theme from the error referenced in the functions.php file.

You can change your theme back to the WordPress default theme by accessing your database and changing the name of the theme:

    Change theme

But, you have to access to the database in order to do so.

You could also login via SFTP/FTP and check that functions.php file in your theme files and see why the error exists. Then switch the theme to TwentyNinineteen.

Right. So how do I access my database. I am not the one that originally set up the site. I feel like I’m blind because I’m coming in as a second. Thank you!!!

Ok, I tried the steps suggested for logging directly into my cpanel but it is saying I don’t have a username/password for that. Would it not be the same as my wordpress login? Sorry for sounding so stupid. I’m a graphic designer that obviously only knows enough to get myself in trouble. Thank you!!!

No, your CPanel at your host may not the same as your WordPress user/pass. I mean, it could be if someone decided to set up their hosting account and WordPress with the same email address and password, but most likely it’s not.

Your Cpanel is your hosting accounts master Dashboard that gives you access to phpMyAdmin to make the change I recommended, or to get FTP access.

If you don’t have access to your hosting CPanel and you don’t have access to your login page because of that error, then your a bit dead in the water.

I personally can’t think of any way to access your login screen without access to your Cpaenl to get your FTP credentials or to access phpMyAdmin.

At my office I have a wordpress.com site so can enter my cpanel no problem through wpengine. But this site uses .org and I’m not sure how the originator set up the original stuff.
