Navigate to the /wp-content/themes/ directory via SFTP, FTP, or your hosting provider’s file manager, open the directory of the theme in question, then find and delete the thumb.php file. ??

I did do so and found that there were three files with thumb.php. I took a guess and now I don’t have any thumbnails on my home page and I still don’t have the bottom of my page (widget) which had all the hours of operation, map etc. We were hacked and I am having a heck of a time getting this site up again! I really don’t know what the heck I am doing, just working real hard to get it back, or perhaps mess it up more than it is. The php I deleted is:/aviationcadet.com/wp-content/themes/simplicity/functions/thumb.php I don’t know how to un-delete it or upload it again. Also don’t know which of the three files I need to delete. Our site is: https://www.aviationcadet.org. Thanks,
    Errol

Ah, so there was more to it than just deleting “thumb.php from my themes folder.” Sorry about that.

First, and most importantly, remain calm and carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

You can recover a fresh copy of the theme when you’re done with the above either from a backup before the hack (if you have any) or by downloading the theme from the directory. I assume it’s https://www.ads-software.com/themes/simplicity-lite
