I need to know causing my website to crash

  • It’s very annoying, very night at +1.30 AM exactly my website start having connection problems then it crashes completely, giving a message error saying “error connecting to the database” or something like that.
    I’m hosting it on OVH, when I reported the issue to them their response was like ‘Go figure it yourself’, the only thing I could understand from them is that the website is crashing because the number of connections to mysql base (30) is reached, what causing that? why it happens that hour when the visitors are few? They have no idea and they don’t want to bother.

    Those are the plugins I’m using:
    – Adblock Notify
    – AZIndex
    – EWWW Image Optimizer
    – Fast Secure Contact Form
    – Shortcodes Ultimate
    – W3 Total Cache
    – Wise Chat
    – Wordfence Security
    – WPBakery Visual Composer
    – Yoast SEO

    I’ve disabled Adblock Notify from collecting users infos, disabled EWWW Image Optimizer from optimizing more than 1 image a time, set Wise Chat to 29 users only and turned off collecting users statistics, disabled Wordfence Security daily scan, in general, all the plugins are well configured and set to use the lowest resources as possible.

    I tried my best to figure out what happening but had no clue, it happens every night and I need to fix it since my site started to get +5K visitors.

    It’s a shared hosting, now OVH sent me an e-mail saying that they banished my site on a limited resources server to not harm other sites hosted on the same machine with mine, but guess what, the same thing still happening ??

  • Have one plugin disabled per night and eventually you will know if it is a plugin or not causing the issue. I would start by disabling the security ones (but 1 at a time obviously). Perhaps however some are fine alone, but crashing/compromising when together with another plugin, so read up if there are some similarities between your plugins.

    Thank you for the advise, the only plugins that i can disable are: EWWW Image Optimizer, Wise Chat, Wordfence Security, the other one were not installed when this issue started or will mess with the website if i disable them.

    Also if the problem persists even after you have disabled all of the plugins, I would advise you to contact the support of your hosting client to see if maybe the problem is on their side.

    Find a new host. It’s surprising to me that a host can be so unhelpful, but it happens. Your site is getting busy and the issues with OVH will only get worse.

    The WordPress team has provided a list of recommended hosting providers. For more details and other recommendations, please search through the forums or via Google (or your preferred search engine).

    Yes, in the server logs. OVH should be looking at those to determine the causes. If the crashes occur at the same time each night, it would be easy to find the cause in the logs. It may be another site on the shared server that is causing the load issues for everyone.

    Yes Mark, I’m also thinking that some website on the same server is causing those problems, I’m going to give it 2 more nights to test the plugins and if nothing changes I guess I’ll drop a smelly review on the top web hosting review sites about OVH support team, they gave me no choices.

    Alright, i turned off all the plugins and nothing changed, also when i contacted OVH France support team they admitted that the server has issues and promised to fix it, this is not a WordPress problem by any way, i appreciate all the help guys & thank you.
