• I am a historian and not a web developer, but have a personal web site which is based on the e107 CMS and a commercial database package. Unfortunately e107 is proving vulnerable to attacks and has been allowed to stagnate by the development community for some years.

As a consequence I am considering whether my site would be better running under WordPress?

First I need the advise of the experts here as to whether WordPress will give the functionality that my site currently has.. It can be seen here:

    https://www.mosleyfamilies.net

Second I would like some advise as to suitable WordPress themes which are clear, clean, modern and yet suitable to the site content.

Third I shall be looking for someone toget the thing up and running, then hold my hand while I learn and play around with layout etc..

If any of you are interested please let me know.

    Regards

  • Well, the good news that that there is a dedicated plugin for importing content into a WP site from an e107CMS install:
    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/e107-importer/

Looking at your site, it should be possible to create something similar in terms of looks and visual design using a suitable theme and perhaps some slider plugins. The area where I think you need to do the most research will be on membership handling, restricting content to members-only and the integration of any existing genealogy data.

Thank you for the quick response!

I’m encouraged if there is an e107 importer, but I have to say the very idea scares me rigid. I simply don’t have the skills to do anything more than learn my way around the administration system once the site is up and running.

Hence requests two and three… Membership and integration of the genealogy components have been done before by others and I can point anyone interested to some instructions for this.

On your current e107 site? Or in a WordPress site?

Integrations exist for both e107 and WordPress, and are documented.

I should add that I am happy to pay a small amount for a premium theme if it works well for the site.
