I regret installing the plugin.
-
We saved a massive amount of time installing this plugin instead of building a custom plugin – a decision I now regret.
Two years on and we’ve spent more time fixing, hacking, patching, and debugging this plugin than we would have spent building a quality plugin.
Each “add-on”n needs another plugin – some disabling core WordPress features.
You will be plagued with bugs whenever the plugin(s) are updated.
The support basically hacks at the hacks (probably breaking someone else’s hack).
The guys in support are super smart (well, most of them are – there are a few you need to avoid) but they’re more concerned about ticket closure than quality code.
If you need something live fast then this works – just beware, you will spend days and nights trying to debug and/or fix stuff.
If you need something that’s high quality and requires little maintenance then look elsewhere or build it yourself.
Overall disappointing

Hi Mike,
Firstly i appreciate the kind things you mention above even if the overall 1* does not reflect it :/
I can see your frustrations with the issues you were having with your site have boiled over, i understand how frustrating things can get with website projects, we have all been there.
I have reached out to you via email in a hope that we can get these frustrations resolve and get your project back on track, i hope you take me up on it and we can turn this review around. Your site looks like it’s really coming together now and just needs that little extra push.
Keep an eye out for my email.
Thanks,
Stiofan
Hi,
I just read this and wanted to clarify few points of your review that are not true.
Each “add-on” needs another plugin – some disabling core WordPress features.
Each add-on is another plugin. That’s how most WordPress freemium plugin works. We disable 1 WP core feature which is the quick edit and that is fixed in V2.
The support basically hacks at the hacks (probably breaking someone else’s hack).
This is not true. Please tell us where we did something like that in one of your topics: https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/members/webalite/topics/
You will be plagued with bugs whenever the plugin(s) are updated.
Again, not 1 mention in your support requests of a plague of bugs after every update in 2 years.
We missed to answer 1 support request about the search algo and for that alone we deserve the 1 star, but your review is borderline defamatory.
Thanks anyway for the feedback.
Hi Stiofan,
I upgraded the plugin to fix the bug you said would be fixed in the next release. The upgrade created 3 new bugs and did not fix the original issue.
We’re having to roll back and test to find which version has the least number of bugs.
Originally I had given your plugin two stars but when I wrote the review it made me realise how disappointing your plugin is.
Paolo’s comments highlight why it’s best to avoid your plugin.
Mike
Hi Mike, i see you are still using our plugin…
I am litturally asking to help you resolve your problems, its no good claiming you have phantom problems and not reporting them or seeking support, these could easily be something you are doing wrong or a setting you dont know about..There are only two outcomes to this situation:
1. You let me help you and all your issues will be resolved and we are both happy. ??
2. You dont let us help you and you continue to strugle and complain about issues that you are not reporting or dont understand and no one is happy… ??If our plugin was as buggy as you make out then it would not have the number of installs it does, what have you got to lose by giving me 1 hour of your time for you to explain any issues you have and for me to explain what you are doing wrong or to fix them?
Stiofan
You have all the rights to give us a 1 star review if your experience with our products and services is disappointing, we can’t please everyone and we know it, but you are clearly trying to damage our reputation stating things that can’t be corroborated.
We are quite reactive towards member’s feedback, especially if it is constructive and the many 5 stars reviews praising our level of support are there to testify what I’m saying.
Since July 2017 you created 13 topics in our forums and except the last one about the search algorithm, all have been answered and resolved in a timely fashion.
Stiofan is more than willing to fix that last problem too, he’s been super busy with the release of V2 and totally missed your topic, but he already acknowledge that.
However the only bug that we fixed so far on your website was on custom code you or your team wrote. Precisely in this thread: https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/links-on-detail-page-dont-work/
If you were plagued with bugs after every update for over 1 1/2 years, why not reporting them and allowing us to fix them? Wouldn’t that be in your interest too?
If you encountered 3 new bugs with the latest version, again why didn’t you report them? But most importantly why no one else reported any major bugs after 4,994 downloads since the release of the latest version?
Hi Stiofan
Because you’ve been helpful in the past (not because Paolo is trolling me) I have listed all open issues in separate tickets on your forum:
1. search results treat “keyword” differently to “keyword,” (with a comma) unresolved issue.
When I installed to the update (Version 1.6.37) to get the fix for the search issue I encountered these new issues
1. Upload Feature Image and Upload Logo Image buttons don’t work so a Listing Owner cannot add images. (link)
2. Multi Select List displays with errors – unusable (link)
3. Advanced Search icon changed to SVG unable to target with psuedo classes. (link)
After 20 posts on one bug – which wasn’t solved – I gave up posting bugs to the forum.
Other issues:
You can’t use feature listings without installing other plugins – one of which is WP Users. WP Users hijacks WordPress login methods and stops you from:
– using other permissions plugins (multiple redirects – unusable)
– logging in through wp-admin (requires you to login twice and redirects to the homepage on second login).
– using any of the WordPress Capabilities methods in your plugins
– stops you from using anything other than Admin for your non-directory users which is a massive security risk.I’ve lost several hours this month through issues like these. Now I have to roll back the plugins to make the directory useable again.
Hopefully you can understand my frustration.
Mikep.s. another frustrating thing for developers debugging your plugin is that you can’t use any Add-ons in a local or staging environment making testing impossible

Hi Mike,
I have other commitments tomorrow but if you have time on sunday we could maybe skype for a little bit? (Even if its just instant messaging).
I believe everything u mention is either a conflict or already resolved, i don’t expect i would need much of your time but having the right info from you would speed things up.
I’ll ask further questions on our support forum.
Thanks,
Stiofan
Libeling first and insulting me calling me a troll now, qualifies you as a person.
1. search results treat “keyword” differently to “keyword,” (with a comma) unresolved issue.
This is the only bug you experienced so far, thank you for allowing me to prove it now:
Upload Feature Image and Upload Logo Image buttons don’t work so a Listing Owner cannot add images. (link)
This is a jQuery conflict most likely caused by another plugin or your theme, not a bug because we can’t recreate it on any of our demos.
Test here if you don’t trust me: https://wpgeo.directory/starter/
Multi Select List displays with errors – unusable (link)
Same as above.
3. Advanced Search icon changed to SVG unable to target with psuedo classes. (link)
This release provided a new FontAwesome settings page, you can fix this by selecting FA4 instead of FA5, reading the change log would have avoided you this problem. If you don’t know where the change log is, you could have asked for support and we would have help you fix this in a minute.
After 20 posts on one bug – which wasn’t solved – I gave up posting bugs to the forum.
So you were not plagued with bugs after every update as you said, it was just this one you really experienced, because this was your last support request and you never reported any bugs before.
You can’t use feature listings without installing other plugins – one of which is WP Users.
Not true, UsersWP is not needed for featured listings, it is not needed for GeoDirectory at all.
Only users that want a custom registration form and login form or allow users to edit their profile will want to install it.
UsersWP does not hijack WordPress login methods, it uses WP functions for both login and registration. It doesn’t prevent from using plugins to alter capabilities, everything you wrote are wrong assumptions.
You don’t need any extra plugin for featured listings. Only if you want to charge for featured listings, you’ll need the Invoicing plugin that simply collects payments and create invoices.
p.s. another frustrating thing for developers debugging your plugin is that you can’t use any Add-ons in a local or staging environment making testing impossible
Not true, you can install our add-ons on as many server, localhost and domain as you wish, I don’t know where you got this other wrong information.
I’ll let Stiofan help you, even though this would be enough to to terminate your account with us.
From https://wpgeodirectory.com/terms-and-conditions/
Account Termination and Suspension
