I think I don’t understand how the plugin works. I activated it, including the banner, but afterwards when I go to the DX Delete Attached Media page I can see under the Unused Media option a lot of images that seem to be still there but should have been deleted? 638 pages with images.

  • Hi Jack,

The plugin deletes images attached to your posts and pages after activating the plugin.
In the column All posts with this media – you can see which posts contain this image.

If you delete post A but used the same image in post-B, the image itself will not be deleted while you have post B active. When you delete posts A and post-B, the image will be deleted from the Media folder.

We still do not have implemented the functionality that deletes all unused media when activating the plugin, but we are planning to release it in a future version.

    Thanks Plamen,

I think I managed to clean up most of the images, but it was a lot of work. Also using FTP to be sure. 20 years of blogging (4500 posts) brought back to a few months ;).

Cleaning up all unused images in an easy way would be a very welcome feature though. I manage some websites and a lot of users keep on adding the same images to the library or changing them.

    Hi Jack,

We are working on adding a Delete All unused images button but it is still in beta and we are working on it.

We can’t promise when it will be ready until we are sure it works properly and it won’t harm users.

    Best,
