• A few years ago I switched from Smush to Optimole. One of the reasons was to have watermarking.

A few months ago Optimole informed us that the limit of free images have been strongly limited and a paid subscription was required (or a commercial banner from Optimole on our site).

As we are a small charity organisation helping street cats in the south of Spain, that totally depend on donations we cannot afford to pay a lot for software / plugins. I requested for a reasonable discount, but Optimole doesn’t want to do that. I have better experience with several other plugin providers.

So we have been switching back to Smush.

    Hi @mahyulan,

Thank you for using Optimole and for your review, we appreciate it!

By the way, we already have rules for watermarks so you can apply watermarks for multiple images by defining the rules in the dashboard, here is our documentation for it:
    https://docs.optimole.com/article/1475-adding-watermarks-to-your-images

    I hope it helps!

    Hi @bvytis,

Thanks for making me aware of the rules.
The possibilities look great and exactly what I need.

But….. it doesn’t work for images that I already branded and I cannot unbranded images anymore. It gives an error message: “Something happened – failed watermark applying”

Also after removing the rule, unbranded the images and add a new rule.
Does it take time to notice a rule has been deleted?
    Or something else causing this?

    Hi @mahyulan,

Happy to hear that it’s the feature you were looking for!

Regarding your question, I need a bit more clarification. Do you mean that you had a watermark added manually to some images before this feature was released and now those images keep the old watermark doesn’t matter if you set rules for them?

I’m not able to test it but with the current feature, I can modify watermarks by changing the rules and they are either added or removed as expected.

If I understood your problem correctly, could you just delete the watermarks that you currently have added (the image itself from the Watermarks section), check if watermark is removed from the images in the gallery, and then re-add the watermark again with setting rules that you like?

    Thanks!

    Hi Vytis,

I did some testing, but first answers on your question:
“Regarding your question, I need a bit more clarification. Do you mean that you had a watermark added manually to some images before this feature was released and now those images keep the old watermark doesn’t matter if you set rules for them?”

Yes, the ones that were done before making the rule are persistent.
Cannot even remove manually the watermark as it results in “Something happened – failed watermark applying”

Only the new images work as expected.

    Hi @mahyulan,

    Thank you for the confirmation.

Could you please message us directly here – https://optimole.com/#contact?

We will need to check your account from the user’s view to replicate the issue and address it. It might be a bug but we haven’t heard of it before.

    Thank you!

@bvytis I’m am 100% sure you mean well but I hope you’re not asking for admin access to this user’s site.

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/guidelines/#the-bad-stuff

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.

If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.

Please be aware that repeatedly asking for credentials will result in us escalating this to the plugins team.

It’s never necessary to do that. Here’s why.

There are many ways to get information you need and accessing the user’s site is not one of them. That’s going too far.

    You get the idea.

Volunteer support is not easy. But these forums need to a safe place for all users, experienced or new. Accessing their system that way is a short cut that will get you into real trouble in these forums.

    Hi @sterndata,

Thank you for jumping in here and the purpose of my request was to identify the exact account of the user so we can check Optimole’s dashboard where watermarks are being managed, not the WordPress dashboard.

I totally agree with all your points listed and why it’s not recommended to share access to the WordPress dashboard.
There are rare cases when temporary access is necessary for further debugging the issue but we try to prevent this as much as possible.

Again, thank you for your message and for sharing information that is definitely useful for everyone using WordPress and looking for help online.
