    Hi,

I have been having issues with my site being down for the last 6 hours. My hosting admin have tried all sorts and I still have an ISE500 screen. He thinks it may be bulletproof because the error log on the server is bringing up a multitude of .htaccess errors, I installed bulletproof last night and know that it changed some of the htaccess files.

I did back the files up, but my server admin instructed me to remove all the plugins installed in the last day (bulletproof being one of them). We’ve deactivated all plugins, but still ISE500 screen. I’ve seen a similar post about a similar issue with Bulletproof, can you help me out on this please?? I don’t know what to do!

    BPS removal steps:
    1. Activate Default Mode on the Security Modes page.
    2. Use the Delete wp-admin .htaccess feature on the Security Modes page.
    3. Deactivate and delete BPS on the WP Plugins page.

If you are unable to access your WP Dashboard then use FTP or your web host control panel file manager and delete the .htaccess file in your website root folder and the .htaccess file in your wp-admin folder.

You can then try the BPS setup again. If your site crashes again then you cannot use BPS on your particular web host and will have to do the removal steps above again.

    BPS setup steps:
    1. Click the AutoMagic buttons
    2. Activate All BulletProof Modes.
    3. Setup complete.

Note: In order for BPS Pro to work correctly you MUST be using a Custom Permalink Structure: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Permalinks#Choosing_your_permalink_structure

Was the issue/problem related to or caused by BPS? Is this issue/problem still occurring?

It fixed when I deleted the .htaccess file, but I didn’t re-install again because I didn’t want it to break again. Thanks for the response!

Ok thanks. There could be several different things that can cause a 500 Internal Server error. If you want to try and install BPS again at a later time then see this Forum post for possible causes of a 500 error.
