I want grid type images, on a static homepage, where each image is a category.

  • Basically I have a sports blog in which I have multiple authors for different sports. The way I’m currently constructed, if 2 or 3 authors post near the same time, the other author’s post gets pushed down the page. I have a menu across the top that will take them to each category.

    What I would rather have is a static home page with an image associated to each genre. So the images are more like buttons. I’d like them to be displayed in a grid format, as opposed to one after another.

    And the bigger catch is, it needs to be mobile compatible, so it would most likely not be displayed on a grid for mobile, but one image after another.

    Try looking through the theme repository, what you are asking is pretty standard.

    If I understand right, you want the home page to give the latest post from each category (each sport in one category). The theme repository is the right place to start, though I would suggest you look at magazine style themes.

    One for example – https://wpfreeware.com/preview/magexpress/ (Disclaimer: not affiliated with site/theme author) lets you show posts from different categories on the home page without worrying about how frequent posts are in those categories.

    I have found themes that show your recent posts in grid format with images, that’s not what Im looking for. I want non-changing static images for each category. So one image would say baseball one image would say football one of which is a basketball, and when they are clicked on, it brings you to that categories posts.

    I found plenty of portfolio style grid image plug-ins, but I can’t figure out how to link my category page to to an individual image.

    I would suggest that you use this plugin – https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/shortcodes-ultimate/ to create a separate page for home. You can create grids using shortcodes and attach images to each element of the grid. If this is an option you want to pursue, please let me know and I can help you further.
