i want my cheque payment order status to pending payment instead of on hold

how can i change my order status to pending payment instead of on hold for my cheque payments. i am using personalised instruction for manual payment in cheque option but its making orders on hold everytime someone places an order. i want it to be pending payment instead of on hold.
