    Hi
First off…I am a newbie novice to wordpress and my site is very new.
I spent pretty much the whole day installing a configuring/tinkering with the Ultimate Member plugin today. It installed and worked perfectly on my test site. It is a wonderful and marvelous plugin that I want to use on my live site.
The problem is that when I install it on the live site…it locks everything up. So I deactivated via ftp…and the site came back up normal. So to troubleshoot it…I deactived every plugin I am using and reactivated UM. It worked. So one by one I activated my other plugins trying to figure out which one is causing the problem. It was Jetpack. When I went to connect jetpack back to wordpress…it locked the whole site up.
I don’t want to choose between UM and jetpack. Is there anything I can do to get them to work together?

  • Jetpack’s bundling of so many different things in one plugin — which completely goes against WordPress’s best feature of modularity — means that it frequently causes problems with other plugins.

My advice for you right now is to treat Jetpack like you treated the plugins. In other words, try turning all the different modules off, and then enable them one by one until you find which one(s) cause the conflict. Then decide whether you can do without it (or them) or not.

As you use WordPress more, though, I’d strongly advise that you don’t use Jetpack at all. All, or nearly all, the features it contains are done better by other plugins, and you’d be better served by using those instead. In addition, because it’s difficult to keep all its modules up to date and secure, and yet has a large user base, Jetpack is a regular target for hackers.

Hi, yes please do some testing with JetPack to see if one of the modules is causing the issue.

    Thanks

It was jetpack for sure. It would work with UM only if i didn’t connect jetpack to wordpress. So I removed jetpack and as suggested found other better plugins to do all the stuff jetpack does. I liked jetpack and all, but Ultimate Member really is a great plugin and it really makes my site a better one. So far UM has worked almost perfectly right out of the box. I had to do some tweaking on it, but mostly just css stuff. Thank you for your help and a great free plugin.
