The css you need to change the background color is:

.mtphr-dnt {
  background-color: #d90000
}

If you want to target a specific ticker, use:

#mtphr-dnt-78 {
  background-color: #d90000
}

Just change the “78” to the ID of your ticker.

Here is the full css I use for the top of dittynewsticker. There may be css in your theme that causes it to look a little different on your site.

  font-size: 12px;
  background-color: #d90000;
  border: 1px solid #F1F1F1;
  border-radius: 5px;
  padding: 10px;
}
