I want to customize a particular post/category

Drop a copy of your theme’s category.php file into the WordPress pastebin and post the pastebin url here. Perhaps someone will be able to suggest a solution.

I don’t see a category.php for my theme, but this is its archive.php, which I think is what’s being used.

Try placing the code at https://wordpress.pastebin.com/0dTqB7rY into a file called category.php and adding that to your theme.

That’s fantastic! Many thanks, esmi. I see the Google translate and share it plugins are loading after this post – is there an easy way to get rid of them? It looks odd with them there.

Oops, the category.php is screwing up the other pages. I’ll have to remove it.

I’ve amended the category code to try and make the changes only affect the Writers categories.

You’ll need to add the id of the Writers category to line 8 of this code (I’ve commented where you need to make this change) to get it to work properly.

Unfortunately that’s not going to work either. There isn’t a Writers category per se; each of the writers has her own category. And to complicate matters, not every writer has one of these short intro posts, so the solution can’t affect the writers who are intro-less.
