I want to make a simple plugin

  • I want to make a very simple plugin. Maye it’s already made. I can’t find it if it is.
    All I want to do is add a box on the add/edit page/post page. In this box I need a drop down that lists .txt file names in a specified directory. Selecting one outputs the txt file contents to a textbox below the drop down menu.
    If anyone can point me in the right direction as to how I could make this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

    On second thought, it doesn’t have to even be a plugin. I just need to do it to my personal installation of WP.
    I can personally develop it into a plugin at a later date.
