The description area though looks like the standard WP page or post editor, is not, hence you are not be able to make use of a shortcode in that section.

Hi there. While shortcodes don’t work by default, we do have a filter to adjust the level descriptions, and so a nice one line code gist like this will enable shortcodes in the level descriptions:

Just add that one line of code using the Code Snippets plugin or to a custom plugin on your site.
