Hello @ofmarconi thanks for your question. The .htaccess doesn’t control permissions by WP user role so this would not be possible.

Could I please ask how you define your subscribers? Do you have a set user role for them?

Regarding hiding the share button there is an open GitHub issue for this that you can follow for updates.

That’s right, the function determines what each one sees.

The subscriber is free to see everything
The customer (generated the purchase but did not pay or expired) sees it as a visitor
And the Visitor sees that he is not allowed to see but can sign…

What I’m using to manage subscribers is this plugin:

But I believe it only changes functions (it doesn’t create), I have a more advanced site that works with function levels depending on the subscription, then the plugin to create functions I use this: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/capability-manager-enhanced/

@ofmarconi thank you for explaining that makes sense. I will need to discuss this with the engineering team for more information and we will update you as soon as we can.

In theory it should definitely be possible to restrict web stories access to subscribers. Just like the plugin already supports the WordPress-native functionality for making content password protected, which is similar.

If it works in practice as well really depends on the plugins you’re currently using to achieve that.

They might actually already be adding custom meta boxes to the editor that would allow you to configure the access level. Have you checked that? There might be a small “M” in the bottom of the editor:

If you don’t see custom meta boxes and there’s no way to change access, e.g. via the “All Stories” page, I recommend reaching out to those plugin developers to request adding support for stories.

I hadn’t thought of it that way, for me your plugin just generated a link, not that it really was a post type.

It just makes me sure how amazing the developers of this plugin are!

@ofmarconi The M will display in the Web Stories editor if you have another plugin installed that adds meta boxes to post types in WordPress. Since you don’t see one there, it means that none of your plugins (including your membership plugin) are adding meta boxes.

The best next step here would be for you to contact the developers of your membership plugin to see if they can add meta box or other support so that you can restrict Web Stories to members only.
