I wonder if my website was hacked ?!

    I tried to login and see my website’s main page and for both i had a 404 error with blank white page.

    At that point i figured it must have been hacked … so i started changing the passowrds to my cpanel login and databases, and then update the wp-config file …

    After doing the above mentioned, i treied again to login and see my main page, and guess what, everything worked smooth … i don’t get it … has my website been hacked ?

    When i was getting a 404 error page, i’ve checked another website of mine to see if it’s live. And it was live (both websites are using the same hosting), which means that the hosting provider wasn’t the issue …

    Any thoughts on this ?
    Btw, I have WordPress Version 3.8.5

    you could have a plugin or theme issue, especially if you’ve recently updated anything as new updates might not play nice with older versions of wordpress.

    as a side note you really should update to the latest version to massively reduce the risk of getting hacked. older versions are often targets for hackers and spammers as they’re using older code bases that may have had their vulnerabilities patched in newer versions.

    your hosting could also be the issue, just because they’re on the same hosting doesn’t mean they’re on the same server or even on the same chunk of the same server…
