Hi – Hoping there’s an easy fix to this problem:

We are running the most current version of WordPress (5.8.1) and The Events Calendar 5.10.0. The link provided is for the main events calendar from our nonprofit site.

For a desktop running Microsoft Outlook, if you open an individual event, then click iCal export and select “open file with Microsoft Outlook,” the program creates an extra outlook calendar for this sole event instead of adding it to the user’s own default calendar. Selecting “save file” creates a different problem: it opens my most recent download folder (whatever that may have been), and attempts to save the file there and not in Outlook at all.

I’ve tried this with several different events on our site. I’ve tried it logged into our WordPress as an admin and when logged out and on different browsers, all with the same result. External users have the same issue.

Notably, when I use my phone to export the event, it it works as intended, adds the event to my own calendar without creating a new one, and it syncs properly to my desktop without creating a new calendar. Google Calendar export seems to be working properly.

My desktop is running Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2016, but other users running Office 2019 are having the same issue. I tried the iCal export on some other random sites (not necessarily running The Events Calendar) to make sure the problem wasn’t on my desktop, and they seemed to behave normally.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Linda

  • Hi @lczipo

Please attempt the following troubleshooting steps and let me know if it helps.

First, run a plugin/theme conflict test:
    https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/testing-for-conflicts/

If that does not help or reveal the issue, please disable any CDN or optimization plugins and services temporarily. Test and let me know if that helps at all.

    Hi, @mandraagora,

Thanks for getting back to me. The problem persists even with the theme changed to 2021 and all plugins disabled except for The Events Calendar.

Is there anything else you can suggest?

    Much appreciated.

Another update: I downloaded and installed the Events Calendar extension to add Outlook Live and Outlook 365 options. Unfortunately, neither of those helped. Outlook Live prompts for a separately login, which I did not pursue, and Outlook 365 adds the event to today’s date and not the event date. I deactivated the extension and am still at a loss as to how to fix Outlook / iCal.

I’d be grateful for any suggestions that anyone might have.

To close the loop on this, after extra searching, I found “The Events Calendar Import Fix,” a plugin designed to address this very problem: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/the-events-calendar-outlook-import-fix/

So far, it seems to have solved the issue without adversely affecting mobile users or Apple users. Fingers crossed.
