Icons not showing in latest version
-
Icons are not showing on our site https://thiscookindad.com.
I saw the plug-in didn’t update so I updated the plug-in and I am still getting funky icons. I don’t have a caching plug-in set-up right now which seems to be the common response here.
Thanks.

Hello,
Having the same issue on ohtaste.co.uk – any help would be appreciated! They just vanished today.
Olivia
Same here with Version 1.0.13
@chryseis Do you see any errors in your browser console when the icons are not visible for you? https://webmasters.stackexchange.com/a/77337/7198
@jackiejoh It looks like your theme’s stylesheet is overriding the plugin’s icon font. You can fix that by changing this code in style.css:
.simple-social-icons ul li a { font-family: 'fontello' !important; }
To look like this:
.simple-social-icons ul li a { font-family: 'ssi-icomoon' !important; }
@kwill2000 The updated plugin uses a different icon font due to other issues with the previous one. The new font required updated glyph codes. I apologise for the inconvenience, but you should only have to make this change once.
@ohtaste I see the icons on your site, but please feel free to ask if you need any more help with this.
@aureliendebord You’re welcome to open a new topic using the form at the bottom of this page: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/simple-social-icons. If you include a link to your site, I’d be happy to review it and suggest a fix for you.
Hi! I am NOT at all a tech person so I have no idea what to do. My simple social icons are not showing up on my website. https://www.kendramartinphotography.com … I have deleted and then reinstalled the plugin but it doesn’t seem to have fixed it. I have also cleared the cached on multiple devices and they still look broken. ANY help I can get would be MUCH appreciated. Just please remember I need it in dummy terms!!!!!!
I am having the same issue. https://www.greenchildmagazine.com/
Thank you so much for any help!
Hey, effblog!
If you go here you will see the stylesheet in your site for the social media icons in question. To find the file within WordPress, go to Plugins > Editor and choose the Simple Social Icons from the dropdown at the top right. To the right of the screen you will see the files associated with the plugin.
Find the style.css file, open it and then you will see what you saw when you clicked the link above.
Select everything within that file, delete it and paste this in (I’ve just replaced every instance of ‘fontello’ with ‘ssi-icomoon’:
@font-face { font-family: 'ssi-icomoon'; src: url('../font/ssi-icomoon.eot?78492063'); src: url('../font/ssi-icomoon.eot?78492063#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'), url('../font/ssi-icomoon.woff?78492063') format('woff'), url('../font/ssi-icomoon.ttf?78492063') format('truetype'), url('../font/ssi-icomoon.svg?78492063#ssi-icomoon') format('svg'); font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; } /* Chrome hack: SVG is rendered more smooth in Windozze. 100% magic, uncomment if you need it. */ /* Note, that will break hinting! In other OS-es font will be not as sharp as it could be */ /* @media screen and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio:0) { @font-face { font-family: 'ssi-icomoon'; src: url('../font/ssi-icomoon.svg?11995952#ssi-icomoon') format('svg'); } } */ .simple-social-icons { overflow: hidden; } .simple-social-icons ul { margin: 0; padding: 0; } .simple-social-icons ul li { background: none !important; border: none !important; float: left; list-style-type: none !important; margin: 0 6px 12px !important; padding: 0 !important; } .simple-social-icons ul li a { border: none !important; -moz-box-sizing: content-box; -webkit-box-sizing: content-box; box-sizing: content-box; display: inline-block; font-family: 'ssi-icomoon'; font-style: normal !important; font-variant: normal !important; font-weight: normal !important; line-height: 1em; speak: none; text-align: center; text-decoration: none !important; text-transform: none !important; width: 1em; -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; -moz-osx-font-smoothing: grayscale; } .simple-social-icons ul.aligncenter { text-align: center; } .simple-social-icons ul.aligncenter li { display: inline-block; float: none; }
Hope that helps!
Thank you so much kendhal, that was exactly what I needed!
@kmmh012 I didn’t see any Simple Social Icons in use on your site at https://www.kendramartinphotography.com/, but feel free to point out where and on what page they should appear on if you need further help!
Hello! I’ve followed every step of this chain and I’m still not able to see the social media icons on my site. Please help!! On my site, https://www.pinstripesandpalmettos.com it just shows boxes where the social media icons should be. I don’t know what else to do!
@katekerley88 Have you tried clearing your W3 Total Cache site cache recently? It looks like it’s caching an old version of the plugin’s stylesheet.
You can clear it by choosing “Empty All Caches” from the “Performance” tab in the WordPress admin bar: https://d.pr/i/1lQPw
Hi Nick! I just did that and still nothing ??
Hi, Kate. I’m still seeing a cached copy of the old stylesheet: https://d.pr/i/18fMW.
It may also be worth going to the Performance → Minify tab and clicking the “Empty cache” button at the top of the page there too.
If that doesn’t work, are you using any other caching or minification plugins? You’re welcome to email

with your login details if you’d like me to take a closer look.Effblog – I still see the issue as you haven’t made the changes I suggested. How are things?
My icons have run away again. They showed up after I replaced the coding above but they seem to have left in the night. Any ideas?
Your stylesheet has reverted back to how it was. I don’t know how.
Follow the steps I gave before.
Make sure you flush any caches you may have. And flush the cache in your browser (for Chrome: settings > history > clear browsing data and then tick every box and remove everything from the beginning of time).
I want to be seeing those cheeky little icons appearing back on your site! Let’s liberate the code and get those blighters out for the world to see and to click on.
I know it’s a nuisance, but when it comes to websites it’s never easy. It’s like walking across a beautiful English field (I’m English, I have no idea what fields in other countries are generally like but I’ll go with ‘very similar, if not the same’) in summer and not standing in sheep dung; the journey is amazing but along the way you’re going to get distracted by stuff you really would rather not deal with.
